Improv comedy is fun, like really fun, and the best way to get into it is by taking a class! Tap into your creativity while connecting to a community of clever and fun people!
In this 90-minute beginners class you'll learn some improv basics, play improv games, and get to see what it's like to make up fun characters and situations with a group of like-minded people.
If you enjoy the class and want more, you can put the $10 cost of this class towards the cost of our 8-week Level One class! But this class stands alone as a beginner improv workshop, and you won't be pressured to sign up for a full course.

Prerequisites: None! This class is great for absolute beginners!
DAN REITZ is the founder and creative director of Buffalo Improv House, a Buffalo native, and a 24-year veteran of improv comedy. In New York City he was the musical director or featured performer with several popular improv comedy shows, including the award-winning Your Love, Our Musical, Baby Wants Candy, and Blank! The Musical. He has been featured on multiple episodes of the Off Book: The Improvised Musical Podcast starring Zach Reino and Jessica McKenna, and he wrote a couple songs with Robert Smigel for Leo, the recently released kids movie by Happy Madison productions and Netflix Animation. Dan is the co-founder of Zamboni Revolution, Syracuse University's improv comedy troupe. Before the pandemic he taught improv and ensemble comedy at Sarah Lawrence College, was on the faculty at the Magnet Theater and Peoples Improv Theater, and performed regularly at those theaters and also the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater, the Brooklyn Comedy Collective, and Caveat NYC. His other improv comedy credits include the Edinburgh Fringe, the Annoyance Theater, ComedySportz NYC, the Williamstown Theater Festival, the SteelStacks Improv Festival, Comic Con NYC, and the New York Comedy Festival. He's also a trombone and piano player who can be seen around town, and recently accepted a position in the music department at SUNY University at Buffalo.

Class Size Requirement: This class requires a certain number of registrants in order to run. If we are under the threshold, registrants will be directed toward our next $10 intro workshop.
COVID Policy: We follow local, state, and federal guidance and requirements in regards to COVID safety policies. In addition, this class takes place at a building that may choose to enact its own COVID safety policies, and we are in frequent communication with other performing arts organizations regarding their COVID policies. Our classes are currently mask-optional, with proof of vaccination not required. However, this may change as CDC, State and local regulations and guidance changes, or as new best practices develop in our industry. We take COVID seriously and ask that you do not take our classes if you are unwilling to follow COVID safety measures if the COVID situation returns us to a place where face coverings or proof of vaccination become required or recommended again.
Cancellation / Makeup Policy: This is a $10 intro workshop. If it needs to be canceled, your purchase will be refunded and you will be directed towards our next intro workshop.

This eight-week class covers the basics of performing funny improv, including agreement, committing to characters, and creating a strong foundation for your scenes. It is a ton of fun and is designed for absolute beginners as well as experienced improvisers.

In this class we strengthen the basics from Level One and introduce more core skills and concepts required to sustain long-form improv comedy scenes and perform long-form improv comedy shows!

An eight-week course where you will work with a director on the Harold, a widely-performed and celebrated improv comedy format. For these eight weeks, you will not just be a class — you will be a performing ensemble!

Improv comedy is fun, like really fun, and the best way to get started is by taking an improv comedy class! Our improv comedy classes are fun and well-paced, and we’ve got stuff for all skill and experience levels!
We've had all sorts of people take our improv classes: college students, moms looking for something to do out of the house, actors looking to add to their skillset, retirees looking for a fun hobby, professionals who want to work on their confidence or public speaking, and people just looking to meet other cool people!
